This is a recording of Christchurch composer John Ritchie's String Quartet. John Ritchie was conductor of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, founder-conductor of the John Ritchie String Orchestra and guest conductor of the NZSO on many occasions. He was Professor of Music at the University of Canterbury until his retirement in 1985 and was Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 1977-1983. His String Quartet (1962) is dedicated to his wife, Anita, who died in 2001.
